Inner City Bikes

Spotted first on Core 77, Michigan's Inner City Bikes is poised to release their duo of pared-down cycles next month. The most notable feature of their design is the direct connection between the crank arms and the rear wheel, obviating the chain ring, chain, and derailleur. A notably short wheelbase adds agility in navigating urban obstacles as well as efficient storage. Partly inspired by the blunt simplicity of the hobby horse, founder Joey Ruiter says he specifically sought to eliminate as much material as possible from the conventional bike setup . The result is inarguably efficient in material use, but has its drawbacks. Between being generally slow and tiresome to ride beyond a short distance, Core 77 recommends potential buyers "consider it a cafe racer with the performance of a beach cruiser." Fair Enough - But who wants a dumb beach cruiser?

Another Country

The newly established Another Country, founded by Paul de Zwart of Wallpaper magazine, offers "unpretentious forms of British Country kitchen style." The lineup, handmade in Dorset, England, successfully conveys a sense of physical and stylistic durability -- and who can have enough of that? Available direct from Another Country in the UK. HabiHut

The product of a fledgling luxury economy, a wealthy and restless former developer, and a well-intentioned father and son duo, the HabiHut is a promising attempt at a low-cost shelter, designed for disaster response as well as semi-permanent housing for refugees and even California's homeless. While I have seen my fair share of 3D rendered knock-down housing, what is most striking about HabiHut comes in two parts: The first is the attention paid to the importance of the village. Each unit can be networked directly to another and, as a larger system, is even billed and sold as a "village in a box." The second is the price -- That is, that there is one; A rarity within the underfunded marketplace. For $2500 each (available in lots of 36 and 72) anyone can have their own hut, or village of huts. RISD Spirit: Brendan Ravenhill

Spotted on NOTCOT, RISD ID alumni Brendan Ravenhill sports a pretty impressive portfolio of work. While I'm definitely drawn the craft of his boat building, I'm wholly surprised by the Facet lamps -- if you explained it to me in words, I'd probably think it had been done, but I find myself wanting them all. The Rare Woods tables and the Bare Light speak to a timeless simplicity and tactile appeal. And, in case you're wondering, he's available for freelance. Find more here.

Rimrock Ranch

Spotted first on le boeuf, the Rimrock Ranch House by San Diego's Llloyd Russel draws on a sturdy lumber yard aesthetic in creating a passively cooled steel home in Pioneertown, California. Despite the harsh nature of steel and concrete, the structure stands out as a cooling oasis within the arid landscape. Unfortunately, it looks fittingly freezing in the winter. See more here.

Two Leg Table by Ben Klinger and Shay Carmon

Originally spotted on NOTCOT, the Israeli design duo Ben Klinger and Shay Carmon collaborated on a series of furniture pieces, the most impressive of which being the concisely-named Two-Legged Table. It's the precision of the joinery that really makes the piece work -- Though I worry about the stability of the Corian paired with the potential expansion and contraction of the oak. Spotted on Remodelista, and featured here in the past, Greene Partners' projects are best characterized by a careful balance of warmth and simplicity.
