An Abridged Baltic Getaway

After taking the summer for granted, I am just now remembering the value of having somewhere to getaway. I spotted this little number on the New York Times a few months back and still catch myself thinking about it. Wanting a place they would realistically be able to spend their weekends, Jussi and Riina Pulva opted to buy a lot (dilapidated cabin included) within the Lauttasaari Recreational Park, a mere 10 minute bike ride from their Helsinki home. Limited by the footprint of the original cabin - 150 square feet - and with the two kids to accomodate, they looked to ship design to for efficient usage of space. The result is an appropriately pared down space, just small enough to not tempt its owners to spend the day inside.

Purekitchen's First Steps

Way back in 2004, Purekitchen burst onto the kitchen scene with this little number. Made in NYC then flat-packed and shipped out west, the kitchen sports Richlite (Hemp) and glass doors, with a little more Richlite thrown on the countertops. Oswalds Mill

Inspired by a recent Remodelista post, I got to looking at the website of Oswalds Mills, a Pennsylvania-based location representative (For photo shoots, etc...). While their namesake is a10,000 square foot 18th century mill-house, they also offer a number of other production-ready locations, all of which are full of character. Here's a sample! Another Trip to Bolaget

Inspired, again, by Emmas I ventured over to the real estate company Bolaget to admire their unusually well produced photography. Their uniquely intimate documentation lends their listings dramatically more character, portraying more of a home than a space. If i found myself with a few hundred thousand Euros burning a whole in my pocket, this might very well be my first stop. See more at Bolaget.

Only in California

Spotted first on Remodelista, then Dwell, this Mar Vista home designed by architect Kevin Oreck finds a satisfying balance between classic California style and, what i will call, desert minimalism. Corrugated steel siding and exposed beams lend the home a shed-like aesthetic, while the concrete floor, trim-free interior, and acres of art-friendly wall space grant it some practical restraint.
