Spotted on Remodelista, I am decidedly impressed with the work of NYC's Julian King Architects. I especially share Remodelista's fondness of their Chelsea Townhouse project. King managed to strike the delicate balance between preservation and renovation, creating a quiet bright space while maintaining an authentic Victorian elegance. From Brisbane; Owen and Vokes

Discovered on Remodelista, I was immediately drawn to the work of Brisbane's Owen and Vokes. Specifically, the Holland Park Sleepout, for its club-house-meets-beach-shanty feel and never-fail coat of white paint. For more, visit Owen and Vokes.

Friends at ICFF

I was excited to discover the recent NY Times article profiling the resurgence of craft at this year's ICFF. (Predominantly featured in the article is friend and fellow RISD Alumni, Andrew Mau, of Rhode Island's Studio Dunn). "Refinement, authenticity, and restraint define the products that are coveted in this territory," says Julie Lasky, the article's author. While furniture, in my experience, has always been a medium learned best the hard way, it is comforting to think that the perceived value of so many hours at the sanding table is ever so slowly creeping upward.

New Work from NRM

Osaka-based NRM Architects integrates iconic Japanese architectural elements with minimalist forms to produce this residence for a triple-generational family in Sakai. Its black metal facade defies the richness and variety of surfaces inside, and a network of narrow hallways balance expansive living spaces. Discovering Kiwi Craft with Workroom

Introducing: Auckland-based, father-daughter duo, Workroom. Born from the enduring craftsmanship of a father and the inspiration of a daughter, Workroom produces lighting and furniture radiating with a reexamined sense of utility and timelessness. For its cleverly calculated laminated legs and refined shade, I am particularly fond of the RS Tripod Lamp. Makr

Having been an avid fan of Makr Carry Goods for a while, now seems like the perfect time for shameless praise. My appreciation for Makr stems from their apparent guiding philosophy of craftsmanship and calculated style. What strikes me most is that while their line-up can at times seems random - tote bags, bar stools, house keys - there is a very apparent and very cohesive theme of old-world craft and timelessness. To put put bluntly, I picture them asking themselves not "Can we make this?," but rather, "What can we make well?" See their full collection at Makr Cary Goods.
