Snug in London

Completed in July of last year, this home by the London firm Alma-nac is the latest feature in our ongoing series of small, but great spaces. Dealing with a lot only two and a half meters wide, the focus of the project, says Alma-nac partner Tristan Wigfall, was "ensuring that natural light was able to penetrate deep into the plan to create rooms that felt spacious and light." To this end, the roof tapers down almost from peak to ground level, allowing skylights to flood each floor with ample light. The narrowness of the space is thereby offset with the sunlight and the views of the outdoors. As far as economy of design goes, it does't get much better than this.
